About the Biennial

From September 17-27 2015, Sesc São Paulo hosts the 9th edition of the Sesc Dance Biennial, in Campinas. The festival remains committed to bringing a wide variety of artistic production and ideas about language to the public, by way of performances, interventions, installations, debates, workshops, book releases and meetings. The activities chosen for the festival showcase the dance universe in all of its shades and colors, with works that blend movement, provocation, thought and reflection. The program was assembled to punctuate the relationship between dance and contemporary esthetic and political issues, inviting us to think about the place of dance within the arts and the world as a whole.

In addition to spaces within Sesc Campinas, the Biennial will also occupy other cultural venues around the city, such as the José de Castro Mendes Theater, Estação Cultura, the Image and Sound Museum (MIS), CIS Guanabara and several squares and public spaces of Campinas.
More than 80 performances are scheduled to take place over the course of 11 days, with the participation of dance companies from across Brazil, as well as representatives from Argentina, Uruguay, Austria, France and Portugal. Our wishes are that this Biennial can establish
an open and fascinating space that will bring us together and closer to dance.

Welcome.
